The Best Guy Movies From 1984

By on December 27, 2017

1984 was the year movie studio’s blessed this planet with a plethora of guy movies. Hollywood stepped up their game in almost every facet of film from big names actors to special effects. We had to expand our list from a top 5 to a top 8 and sadly we still left some great guy movies off the list.

1. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984)

As we’ve stated previously it’s impossible to rank Hollywood’s 1984 movies releases but we had to give it an honest attempt. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom checks all the guy movie boxes.

Here’s what you need to know. It’s a prequel to Raiders of the Lost Ark. The film is produced by George Lucas and directed by Steven Spielberg. It’s a favorite of Sheldon Cooper from Big Bang Theory.

Stars: Harrison Ford, Kate Capshaw, Amrish Puri
Box Office Gross: $333.1 Million
Production Cost: $28.2 Million

2. Beverly Hills Cop (1984)

Beverly Hills Cop is what happens when you put one of the funniest men alive in a cop drama-action-comedy with a halfway decent script. Axl Foley (played by Eddie Murphy) perfectly portrays the undercover Detroit detective that travels to pretentious Beverly Hills to find his friends murderer.

The hit film made AFI’s Top 100 comedies of all time and deservedly so.

Stars: Eddie Murphy, Lisa Eilbacher, Judge Reinhold
Box Office Gross: $316 Million
Production Cost: $15 Million

3. The Karate Kid (1984)

Daniel LaRusso is about to perform the crane kick in the 1984 hit film The Karate Kid.

Sure it’s kid appropriate but that doesn’t mean this isn’t a kickazz guy movie (double negative). The Karate Kid has sunny Southern California, cute blondes, rich snobby kids that are also monsters of the martial arts, and a kid from Jersey just trying to get some action.

Stars: Ralph Macchio, Noriyuki “Pat” Morita, Elisabeth Shue
Box Office Gross: $90.8 Million
Production Cost: $8 Million
